Karen Hamilton-Viall and The Curious Life of Ada Baker

Author Karen Hamilton-Viall’s novel The Curious Life of Ada Baker paired with a Twinings Lady Grey Tea

About the Book: Ada Baker is a gifted psychic who shares her home with three bored ghosts. They tempt her into investigating the death of local beauty Mary Watts, who is found naked and strangled in her bathtub. This begins a series of exciting adventures for Ada, as she draws on her unique skill of channeling the abilities of the dead to help solve the crime. She must convince a skeptical detective of her abilities, avoid the unwanted attentions of a sinister stalker and try to enlist the help of a squadron of spitfire pilots to save her own life.

Can the dead really bring justice for Mary and help save the living too? Will Ada solve the crime or will her curiosity mean she’ll end up a victim of the murderer and become a ghost herself?

About the Beverage: Karen recommends pairing THE CURIOUS LIFE OF ADA BAKER with a Twinings Lady Grey Tea because “the ghosts love to be included in Ada’s life & she regularly pours them a refreshing cup of their favourite beverage, Twinings Lady Grey tea. Being dead, they can’t drink it but they enjoy the ceremony of it.”

About the Author: Karen says, “I started creating stories almost as soon as I could write and I began composing my first novel at 19 which was also when I met my first real ghost. I’d moved out of home into a flat. On the outside it appeared to be an average Edwardian terraced home, but inside their lurked a poltergeist. He would stomp up the stairs and throw things about. He later went on to feature as Dennis, the poltergeist from my novel. I began writing The Curious Life of Ada Baker during the first lockdown. It started with the germ of an idea of a psychic who could utilise the abilities of the dead to help solve a murder. I thought as I was writing about a psychic, it’d be good to interview one, so I interviewed Mike Baker (no relation), who predicted I should approach a publisher in Cambridgeshire with a K or C name, and the person in charge would have a K or C name. I found Cranthorpe Millner and Kirsty!”
